  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Spray a 9×13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray; set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine dark brown sugar, unsalted butter, corn syrup, whole milk, and salt. Bring to a boil while stirring constantly. Pour the syrup into the prepared casserole dish.
  3. Arrange sliced challah bread on top of the syrup layer.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt until combined. Slowly pour this mixture over the bread slices ensuring they are well soaked.
  5. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and refrigerate overnight (at least 8 hours).
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake covered for 40 minutes; then uncover and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar before baking for an additional 40 minutes or until golden brown.
