  • Gel food coloring (red and blue)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 3 Tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 34 Tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream softened butter and sugar until fluffy.
  3. Mix in egg yolk and vanilla until combined.
  4. Gradually add salt and flour; mix until just combined.
  5. Divide dough into two portions; color one red and one blue.
  6. Chill colored dough for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Roll out dough to ¼ inch thickness; cut into star shapes.
  8. Bake for about 10 minutes until edges are golden.
  9. Cool on a wire rack before decorating.
