  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 slices provolone cheese (4 for filling, 4 for topping)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the diced bell pepper and onion for about 5 minutes until softened. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  4. Press half of the meat mixture into a loaf pan to form the base layer.
  5. Layer with 4 slices of provolone cheese followed by the sautéed veggies.
  6. Top with the remaining meat mixture and press firmly.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes; add remaining cheese during the last 5 minutes until melted.
  8. Let rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
