Description

Homemade Honey Buns are a nostalgic treat that perfectly blends soft, fluffy dough with a sweet glaze. These delightful buns make an excellent breakfast option, afternoon snack, or indulgent dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ⅔ cup whole milk
  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • ⅓ cup butter (melted, cooled)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 3 tbsp butter (melted) for glaze
  • 1¼ cup powdered sugar (sifted) for glaze
  • 2 tbsp milk for glaze
  • 2 tsp honey for glaze
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract for glaze

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. In another bowl, whisk together milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla. Combine wet and dry ingredients to create a soft dough.
  2. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl covered with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm area for about 90 minutes or until doubled in size.
  3. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle approximately ½ inch thick. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon. Roll tightly into a log and cut into 14 equal pieces.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat (about 350°F). Fry each bun piece until golden brown on both sides (approximately 2-3 minutes per side), then drain on paper towels.
  5. For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, milk, honey, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over warm buns before serving.
