Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Red food coloring (optional)
  • Wooden sticks

Instructions

  1. Insert wooden sticks into the top of each washed and dried apple. Lightly grease a baking sheet.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and cinnamon. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
  3. Bring to a boil without stirring until reaching 300°F (hard crack stage).
  4. If desired, stir in red food coloring before removing from heat.
  5. Quickly dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, turning to coat evenly.
  6. Place coated apples on the greased baking sheet and allow them to cool until set.
