Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients alternately with milk until just combined.
  6. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Allow cakes to cool for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Prepare caramel sauce by melting brown sugar, butter, and heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened.
