Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp tomato sauce or ketchup
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 8 oz button mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • Cornstarch for thickening
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, panko breadcrumbs, tomato sauce, egg, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, black pepper, and salt until just combined. Form into 4 patties.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for about 4-5 minutes per side until browned. Remove from the skillet.
  3. In the same skillet, add onions and mushrooms; cook until softened (about 5 minutes).
  4. Pour in beef broth along with onion powder, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce; bring to a simmer. Return patties to the skillet and cook until fully done (about 10 minutes).
  5. Mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry; stir it into the gravy to thicken. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until desired consistency is reached.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste before serving hot.
